AIM CCI EXPANSION

During the course of the five-year pilot, AIM CCI expanded from the pilot phase to national implementation and introduced the AIM CCI model addressing maternal health and safety to a total of 17 c0mmunities.  These communities implemented AIM CCI’s non-hospital maternal safety bundles through their internal QI processes, as well as continued to accept applications from community collaboratives seeking to establish a Local Maternal Safety Workgroup to implement the bundles across a network of both clinical and non-clinical community-based providers and social service organizations.

All partners had access to Technical Assistance from the AIM CCI national team to help you implement the bundles as well as contribute your community’s data to the national AIM CCI database.

 

AIM CCI partners received financial support to implement the project at the community level.

Partnering with Communities

The Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health—Community Care Initiative (AIM CCI) was a federally funded project focused on improving maternal health outcomes through the use of Maternal Safety Bundles in non-hospital settings. In a cooperative agreement with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the National Healthy Start Association, AIM CCI is partnering with community organizations in areas with high maternal mortality and morbidity. By leveraging the knowledge and reach of community organizations, together we sought to uncover, address, and overcome barriers that lead to poor maternal health outcomes.

The Realities of Maternal Morbidity and Mortality in the U.S.

In the United States, many people may believe that severe health risks associated with pregnancy and childbirth are a thing of the distant past. However, the number of women who die or experience severe health problems as a result of pregnancy and childbirth has been rising over the last 30 years. The negative outcomes are disproportionately high in some communities, and the need for a new approach to address problems in maternal health care is clear.
